Know the Right-of-Way, Clear the Right-of-Way
T
he City of Normandy Park
is working to ensure that
sidewalks, streets, and
other public rights-of-way remain
safe and accessible for everyone.
Free and safe passage for
pedestrians is a priority
for the City. Overgrown
hedges, shrubs, trees,
and other vegetation can
force pedestrians into the
street, block sidewalks
and walkways, reduce
visibility, and create other hazards.
Property owners are responsible for
routinely maintaining vegetation
and landscaping adjoining their
property, including areas within
unimproved public right-of-way.
Vegetation should be trimmed
and maintained so that it does not
obstruct pedestrian passage,
interfere with driver
visibility, encroach into the roadway,
or otherwise create a safety concern.
Use the picture above as a reference
and please inspect and maintain the
vegetation adjoining your property
so that it:
• Does not obstruct or impede
the safe passage of pedestrians;
• Does not extend into or
obstruct the traveled portion of
the roadway;
• Does not interfere with visibility
for drivers, pedestrians, or
vehicles entering or leaving
nearby properties; and
• Does not otherwise obstruct
the safe and reasonable use of
the public right-of-way.
