As we start again, in earnest, working on our lawns and gardens, don’t forget to look at the gorgeous green budding trees, shrubs, and flowers that nature has provided. Listen to the many happy birdsongs that fill the air. Smell the sweet, scented, warm air and be thankful for this safe, clean, and green special place we live in. Smiles are returning to our faces - don’t forget to say hello, good morning, good afternoon, or whatever to our fellow neighbors and friends. The joyous sounds of children playing together are back and thriving, whether at our playgrounds, on our streets, or in organized sports like baseball, lacrosse, soccer, or impromptu games on our fields. It’s back in a big way. Be mindful of the kids’ enthusiasm for riding their bicycles, e-bikes, skateboards, etc. They are trying to obey the rules most of the time. Soon, more runners, joggers, walkers, some with pets on leashes, will abound, and this place is big enough for all of us. Council Corner BY SHAWN MCEVOY, COUNCIL MEMBER This is a special place. It is all possible and works because we want it to. There are so many wonderful volunteers in Normandy Park who gladly give their time and energy to help keep this place special. From the Mayor and City Councilmembers who work for free to the Planning, Parks, and Arts Commissioners who also work for free, and, of course, the many community groups and individuals who do the same. Thank you one and all, we’re making this work, we’re making a difference. If you would like to volunteer too, there are many rewarding opportunities, just ask around! If you don’t have the time or energy to volunteer, you can still contribute in a lasting way. Many wonderful and generous individuals and families have donated their surplus land, which has become lovely Parks for all here to enjoy. Walker Preserve, Nist Park, and Wilson Park are shining examples of people who decided to make this part of their legacy. Others have sold land to the City for the same wonderful purpose. What would you like to be remembered for? What’s your legacy? This is a special place. It is all possible and works because we want it to. There are so many wonderful volunteers in Normandy Park who gladly give their time and energy to help keep this place special.
