The sudden removal of a large
quantity of a tree’s leaves can
also starve a tree and cause
sunburn on the remaining
leaves, branches, and bark.
There are many creative
approaches to tree pruning that
are far less damaging than tree
topping such as windowing,
limbing up, and canopy thinning.
A good arborist should be
able to help you come up with
ways to reduce the size of your
tree and shape it to achieve
your landscaping goals and, if
applicable, improve your viewshed,
without damaging the tree.

A
s part of this year’s Spring Into Art program, the Normandy
Park Arts Commission presents The Whirling Winds,
a scintillating woodwind quintet composed of five top
musicians from Seattle. The free concert is at 7 p.m. Friday, May 1,
in the beautiful, intimate chapel at John Knox Presbyterian.
The musicians of Whirling Winds have been performing
together for more than 15 years all over the Northwest, from
Bellingham to Portland, Oregon.
The concert in Normandy Park features one of the first pieces
ever written for woodwind quintet, Franz Danzi’s “Quintet in Db
Major.” The program also includes selections from the group’s
recent “Taste of Sweden” performance in Seattle. Check the
calendars for an April Flower Arranging and a June Sound Bath!
