Many longtime residents remember the grand Bicentennial Parade of 1976 when our community came together to celebrate America’s 200th birthday. I’ve been told that residents even buried a time capsule as part of that celebration. Imagine the stories it might tell if it remained sealed until America’s 300th birthday! This year, we’re excited to continue that tradition of community celebration. In partnership with the Normandy Park Community Club (The Cove), the City of Normandy Park is sponsoring a professional fireworks display over the water on Friday night, July 3rd to kick- off the week-end. Thanks to the Cove’s longstanding commitment Stars, Stripes and Safe Summer Nights BY SUE-ANN HOHIMER, DEPUTY MAYOR to hosting the parade, fun run, and family activities each year, generations of residents have enjoyed gathering together to celebrate Independence Day. We hope you’ll join us for this special America 250 celebration. This edition also highlights an equally important topic: safety. As summer unfolds, take time to get to know your neighborhood Block Watch Captain. If your area doesn’t yet have one, consider stepping forward. As we work on updating our Emergency Management Plan this fall, strong neighborhood connections throughout Normandy Park’s twelve Provinces will help ensure we are prepared for whatever comes our way.
