4 For the third straight year, Victoria has ranked as the best small city in the world, according to readers of Condé Nast Traveler (cntraveler.com). Welcome to Victoria. World-Class 4 “The reason why we rank so well on that is we do well in lots of areas,” says Bruce Hallsor, president of the Victoria Downtown Business Association (DVBA). “We’re not a city where people come to see one attraction and leave.” Victoria has a rich history, as the oldest city in the Pacific Northwest. “But we also are fairly young city with a vibrant tech industry that feeds a pretty vibrant and avant- garde nightlife with clubs and late-night restaurants,” Hallsor adds. Victoria is also very walkable, a reflection of its age. “This city was really built before the motor vehicle,” Hallsor says. “Certainly, the downtown was built for horses and carriages. It has a bit of a feel of a European city that way.”
