Chinatown is also home to the
Victoria Chinatown Museum
(victoriachinatownmuseum.com),
which opened in 2020.
On the edge of Chinatown is
Smoking Lily, 1713 Government
St., below Canada’s oldest
Chinese temple. Smoking Lily sells
nature-inspired garments sewn
by hand in Victoria (smokinglily.
com). Just outside the Gate of
Harmonious Interest is Silk Road
Tea (silkroadteastore.com), whose
owner, Daniela Cubelic, has been
called “Canada’s tea master.”
Sutcliffe further notes that side
streets like Broad and Broughton
are worth checking out.
Destination Greater Victoria’s
Jodi Westbury, meanwhile,
recommends the Beehive Wool
Shop, which has been in operation
at 1205 Blanshard St. since 1906
and recently expanded into a multi-
use space called the Beehive Fibre
Arts Centre, at 1205 Blanchard St.
(beehivewoolshop.com).
“They’re well known for yarns
and other fiber-based items
related to weaving, knitting,
crocheting, all those kinds of arts,”
Westbury says.
